We were expected to gossip, flirt, pull pranks, look at a screen, do anything except acknowledge the shaking ground, the black clouds, the fear thicker than blood spreading through the room.

Ian turned around again to see a crowd of men in wool sweaters, blazers, and button-up shirts huddled around a woman in a red pantsuit.

I dress down his mask and imagine finding an angular jawline. Maybe he has a broken nose. That’d be hot.
